Best OTT Platforms in 2026: 11 Tools Compared by Company Size and Requirements

Updated October 26, 2026 · 11 tools · Facts checked against vendor pages · How we review

Buyers shopping for OTT platform providers usually land on Uscreen or Dacast when they are a small creator or event team, and on Muvi when they want white-label apps with DRM from the entry plan. Broadcasters and operators tend to talk to Kaltura, ViewLift or Setplex, while Brightcove suits enterprise media teams.

This page is for companies that want to launch a branded streaming service and are weighing OTT platform providers before they book demos. Tools are grouped by company size and requirements, since a coach with a membership and a sports league need very different things. Turn the requirement lists below into a request on SaaSBid, then compare the offers vendors send back instead of decoding quote-only pricing pages one by one.

Top picks by situation

    Uscreen

Plans begin at $49 per month with live streaming on every plan, and mobile apps can be added later from App Essentials.

    Cleeng

Billing, paywall and churn tools are free up to 10,000 managed subscribers, which suits a team that only lacks the payments layer.

  • A sports league launching direct to fans

    ViewLift

One app CMS pushes changes to 16+ device platforms, and the client roster includes the NHL and many US sports teams.

    From: Contact sales

What are OTT platforms?

An OTT platform is the software behind a streaming service that reaches viewers over the internet instead of cable or satellite. It stores and delivers video, gives editors a content manager, runs the viewer apps for web, phones and connected TVs, and handles how people pay, whether by subscription, single purchase or ads. Creators, fitness and education brands, publishers, sports leagues and telecom operators all buy them. Some products cover the whole stack, while others supply only one layer such as billing or the streaming server, so the first job is deciding how much of the service you want a vendor to run.

Core capabilities

  • Monetization models

Supports subscriptions (SVOD), single purchases or pay-per-view (TVOD), ad-supported viewing (AVOD) and free ad-supported channels (FAST), alone or combined.

  • Branded viewer apps

Delivers your own apps for web, iOS, Android and connected TV devices such as Roku, Fire TV and Apple TV.

  • Content management

Lets editors upload, organize and publish video libraries, collections and channels without developer help.

  • Live and linear streaming

Runs live events and scheduled channels next to the on-demand catalog.

  • Content protection

Uses DRM, encryption and geo-blocking to keep licensed or paid video from being copied or watched in the wrong region.

  • Audience analytics

Shows viewing time, churn and revenue per title so you can see which content earns its place.

How to choose OTT platforms

Monetization models

This covers which ways of earning revenue the platform supports, such as subscriptions, pay-per-view, ads and free ad-supported channels. Strong platforms let you combine several models and add coupons, trials and regional pricing. Weak ones offer subscriptions only, or hide ads and live ticketing on a higher tier.

Apps and device coverage

This measures where viewers can actually watch, from the web player to phone apps and connected TV devices. Strong providers ship branded apps for iOS, Android and the main TV platforms with one content source. Weak ones stop at the browser or sell each additional app as a separate monthly cost.

White-label branding and customization

This describes how much of the player, site and apps can carry your name, colors and layout instead of the vendor's. Strong tools offer templates plus control over fonts, palette and app store listings. Weak tools brand only the player or limit custom apps to enterprise contracts.

Live streaming support

This covers live events, simulcast and scheduled linear channels beside the on-demand library. Strong platforms include chat, ticketing and low-latency delivery in the same account. Weak ones are pre-recorded only, or treat live as a separate product with its own contract.

Analytics and audience tools

These are the reports and audience features that show what viewers watch and which content earns revenue. Strong tools track churn, lifetime value and engagement per title, and connect to a CRM or marketing tool. Weak tools show basic view counts without subscriber or revenue context.

DRM and content security

This covers DRM systems, encryption, watermarking, geo-blocking and any security certifications. Strong providers name their DRM systems, publish certifications and offer token access to stop link sharing. Weak ones mention protection in general terms, or reserve DRM for the most expensive plans.

Pricing model

This criterion covers how the platform bills you, for example flat plans, per-subscriber fees, revenue share or quotes. Strong models state what each plan includes and what extra apps or bandwidth cost. Weak ones hide prices behind a demo or add fees that appear only after launch.

Target company size

This shows which buyers a platform was designed for, from solo creators to broadcasters and telecom operators. Creator tools stay simple and cheap but lack certifications and TV coverage. Enterprise platforms add device breadth and security controls, and can be too heavy for a small library.

OTT Platforms FAQ

What is an OTT platform?

An OTT platform is software that lets a company run its own streaming service over the internet. It bundles video hosting, a content manager, viewer apps and payment handling, so the business does not build the backend itself. Some vendors supply only one layer, such as billing.

What is the best white label OTT platform?

It depends on your size and device needs. Muvi lists white label on every plan and Setplex builds apps in the client's own fonts and palette. Zype offers a templated Apps Creator, while Vimeo Streaming restricts branded apps to Enterprise.

Which monetization models do OTT platforms support?

Most cover subscriptions (SVOD) and pay-per-view or rentals (TVOD). Ad-supported viewing (AVOD) and free ad-supported channels (FAST) are less universal. Kaltura lists all four, ViewLift lists nine or more options, and Vimeo Streaming adds AVOD only on Enterprise.

Should I use a white-label OTT platform or build my own?

A white-label platform gets you to market faster because hosting, apps and billing already exist. Building suits teams with engineers and unusual needs. Wowza serves that second group with a streaming server and SDKs, but it has no built-in subscriber management.

Which OTT platforms include apps for Roku, Apple TV and Fire TV?

Brightcove, Setplex, ViewLift and Muvi list connected TV coverage, and Zype's Apps Creator covers iOS, Android and connected TV. Uscreen offers TV apps only on its Custom plan. Always confirm which exact devices your plan includes.

What should I include in an OTT platform request for offers?

State your expected subscribers, video library size, target devices, monetization model, DRM needs and launch date. Add your budget range in words. Vendors can then quote the right plan instead of a generic package.

Ratings follow each vendor's stated audience, entry price, subscriber caps and whether enterprise controls such as SSO or DRM are listed. A cell stays empty when the vendor says nothing about that company size.

  • 1-10 people

Low entry cost and fast launch matter most. Uscreen starts at $49 per month, Dacast at $39 on annual billing, and Vimeo Streaming at $1 per subscriber for a web-only service. Cleeng adds free billing tools if you already have a video host.

  • 11-50 people

Teams now want their own mobile apps and several ways to charge. Muvi, Uscreen, Dacast and Cleeng fit this range, and Zype becomes workable if the budget reaches $500 per month. Check which plan unlocks apps, since that is often the real price jump.

  • 51-500 people

Connected TV apps, DRM and analytics become requirements. Muvi and Zype are listed for mid-market media, while Brightcove, Wowza and Setplex can serve this size with a sales-led purchase. Ask each vendor what a full launch costs, including apps and add-ons.

  • 500+ people

Operators and broadcasters need device breadth, regional pricing and certified security. Kaltura, ViewLift, Brightcove and Setplex are aimed at this size, and Vimeo Streaming offers SSO and DRM on its Enterprise tier. Expect demos and custom quotes.

A check means the vendor documents the capability publicly (hover for the detail). A dash means we found no public documentation, which is a question to put in your request, not proof the feature is missing.

OTT Platforms requirements checklist

Use this list to write down what your team actually needs. Sorting requirements into must-have, should-have and nice-to-have is what lets vendors quote accurately instead of pitching their biggest plan.

Must have

  • Subscription and pay-per-view billing with free trialsSome platforms offer only subscriptions on entry plans, and ad-supported models often sit higher up.
  • Branded iOS and Android apps under our own nameApps are frequently priced as an add-on or limited to an upper tier.
  • Apps for Roku, Fire TV and Apple TVConnected TV coverage differs sharply and often needs a custom plan.
  • DRM and encrypted delivery for paid contentLicensors may require it, and several vendors reserve DRM for higher plans.
  • Upload of our existing video library with metadataLibrary size affects migration effort and storage limits.

Should have

  • Live events alongside the on-demand catalogLive is a separate product or plan at some vendors.
  • Viewer analytics covering churn and lifetime valueRetention numbers show which content justifies its cost.
  • Coupons, promo codes and multiple currenciesThey matter when you sell to several countries or run campaigns.
  • API access to connect our website and CRMAPI access is sometimes limited to enterprise contracts.

Nice to have

  • Free ad-supported channels with scheduled playoutLinear channels add reach but need a playout product.
  • Single sign-on for our staff accountsLarger teams want central access control, often on the top tier only.
  • Choice of hosting region for master video filesSome buyers must keep content in one region.

Questions vendors ask before quoting

Have answers ready for these, and your first conversation with a vendor starts at pricing instead of discovery.

  1. How many subscribers and monthly viewing hours do you expect in year one?Bandwidth and per-subscriber fees drive the quote, and overage rates differ.
  2. Which devices must your apps cover at launch?Connected TV apps are often priced per app or locked to an enterprise plan.
  3. Do you sell subscriptions, single purchases, ads or a mix?The monetization model decides which plan tier and billing layer you need.
  4. Is your content licensed, and does the licensor require DRM?DRM requirements can move you to a higher plan or a different vendor.
  5. Do you stream live events, and how many hours per month?Live is metered or sold separately by many providers.
  6. How many hours of video must be migrated, and by what date should you launch?Library size and deadline determine onboarding scope and any project fees.

What a strong OTT platforms request looks like
We are a 30-person fitness media company with a library of about 600 recorded classes and a weekly live session. Today we sell access through a plugin on our website, and members complain they cannot watch on their television. We need a subscription service with free trials and coupon codes, branded iOS and Android apps, and Roku and Fire TV apps within the first year. DRM is required for two licensed programs. We want analytics on churn and watch time, plus an API to sync members with our CRM. Our target launch is in four months. We expect a budget in the mid four figures per month, and we can commit to annual terms if the features match.

The bottom line

Start with how you want to charge viewers and which devices must be covered at launch, then drop any provider that cannot meet those two points. Self-serve tools and sales-led platforms rarely compare cleanly on a pricing page, because apps, DRM and live are billed differently. A precise list on SaaSBid lets each vendor quote the same scope, so the offers you receive can be set side by side.
